When it comes to character designs, the Pokémon franchise has always been a step ahead of the curve. The blend of cheap CGI and TV series animation in 'I Choose You' is a jarring reminder that even the best franchises can have off days. The movie's narrative feels like two unrelated films crudely stitched together, making it a challenging watch for both new and old fans.

The story follows Ash Ketchum and his friends as they try to stop Team Rocket from abusing the powers of Latias and Latios, two legendary Pokémon. As someone who has been away from the franchise for a while, I was disappointed by how little the movie offered in terms of helping new fans get up to speed with the Pokémon universe.
